Can she be a good manager?

This is a very interesting topic to discuss. Women can’t be a manger, is a myth. There are lots of facts and researches which prove women can be a manager. Many of women who are reading this post might be managers.

There are many women out there who are very successful, holding a very big position like chairman, CEO and running billionaire companies. In spite of proving so many times that she can do it there are many times the question pops out among employees or teams, can she be a good manager?

Definitely women and men think differently. Both have different personality traits, perspectives and approach. Let’s agree, both are from different planets. Women are more multitasking and emotional where as men are more logical. It's not about her being a better manager than men but it's just she being a good manager.

Here are few points according to me which might hold back women from being a good manger.

It’s an in born thing in women. They like to gossip, gossip about colleagues, on boyfriends on apparels etc the list continues. Who went out with whom, what she was wearing, what he said, what the conclusion is, the concoction of the stories goes on and on. Somehow I always felt gossiping is not a criteria to become a good manager. A manager has to win the trust of his/her teammates. Gossiping about colleagues is a pit on the way to be a good manager.

Women are very emotional, but it’s a drawback while we are working in a world of men and competing with them. I have seen women being very emotionally attached to many things at her work place. Sometimes it’s her teammates, sometimes it’s her projects. Getting emotionally attached to someone curtails once career growth.

I don’t how true it is, but I have always seen women making friends faster and becoming a guardian angel of the friend. Even in the work it is the same. Office is not a place to make friends. There is no wrong in making friends but friends in a workplace will make your life more difficult. You cannot be firm with them on deadlines, you cannot leave them in the competition, and by making friends you would have simply tangled yourself in unnecessary problems.

Most of the women, who are running in the race of becoming a good manager, usually are very informative. But one should ensure good knowledge is very essential to compete against anyone. It will boost your confidence.

It’s all about competition, showing the world that only I can do things might put others in insecurity which would result in bad competition. Ensure you appreciate every ones work, however insignificant it might be, there is no loss in patting his or her back for their effort and time.

Men won’t get jealousy? Ahaa… It’s human nature. But I don’t understand why women have to viciously spew her jealousy and make a yellow green face and allow the world to call her “Miss J”. There is no wrong in appreciating; there is no wrong in acknowledging. It is easy to preach difficult to practice, I agree.  

These are not the usual tips which are discussed in the good manager articles. But these are my personal experiences which I had seen around me and made me think that may be these are few basics, a woman should inculcate to be a good manager.
